The season has started with most Senior and Youth teams playing his coming weekend. Inevitably it will take time to get our new ground, and teams, all operating smoothly but there is no doubt that the club has made a major step forward – the fruits of which will become increasingly apparent. Our next major challenge is to install changing rooms – you can see the vison here – rather than having to traipse over to the temporary facilities. Our new ground is called the Dragons Den to differentiate it from the LCS centre pitch. The Seniors and Girls U15s have got off to a great start:
The Firsts beat Hilltop 6-2 away in the Alec Smith Premier Division Cup. This was a particularly pleasing result as even our most devoted fans have noted that the Firsts often get off to a slow start only to peak deep into the season. This start has bucked the trend with a thumping great win.
The Blues thrashed OHM 9-1 at the Dragons Den. One hesitates to use such expansive language as “thrashing” but the truth is that it is an apt description. The Blues have been on the wrong end of many a “thrashing” so this was also a particularly pleasing result.
The ODs drew 3-3 against Maida Vale at the Den in the most thrilling of matches. At half time the Dragons were 1-3 down and many would have bet on a Dragons looming loss – they would have been wrong! They fought back to 3-3 and then, in the last 10 seconds, their increasing pressure led to a one-on-one situation that somehow Maida’s goalie saved. Rather cruelly the ref then blew the whistle to thwart the Dragons. A great match.
The U15 Girls made history on the Saturday morning by winning the first ever Dragons match at the Den by beating Regents Park 4-3. The girls’ inspiration paved the way for the later Blues’ win.
