Fellow Cup Winning Dragons

The U14Bs beat W4 Rangers 7-1 in the League Challenge Trophy Final on neutral ground.  The sun shone as the Dragons kicked off on the bone-dry pitch, fielding a strong team missing just two regular starters. The match started brightly and it looked that it would be decided by the odd goal.  After a couple of early exchanges, the ball went into the Dragons box and after a couple of blocked shots broke on the edge of the area where it was fired over the Dragons keeper’s head into the net.

Going 0-1 down proved to be the best thing that could have happened to the Dragons as they immediately upped their game and from then on it was one way traffic. Just two minutes later the Dragons restored parity via a bullet header from a right-hand corner.  The Dragons moved into overdrive playing slick incisive football, cutting the Rangers defence open time and time again. Any opposing attacks were ruthlessly snuffed out by the high energy, combative midfield who hunted in packs dominating the middle of the park.

A five minute hat-trick made it 4-1 at 25 minutes in and two minutes later a goal-of the-season screamer from outside the box into the top tight corner made it 5-1. Just before half time, a clever short corner resulted in a 6th goal slotting in at the near post. With the scoreboard reading 6-1 at half time the game was all but over and the Dragons had one hand on the Cup.

The plucky Rangers showed some fight as they managed to restrict the rampant Dragons to just one second-half goal. At the final whistle the U14Bs had secured their first silverware, an amazing achievement when one considers that this was their first season together as a team.

The First Team were awarded the win over South Kilburn but denied the opportunity of actually playing and winning the match. Still it has been a magnificent season with the Dragons having turned around a difficult start to be consistent match winners.
