It was the Girls who shone this weekend:
The Firsts drew 2-2 to local rivals Shepherd’s Bush away. It was a hard-fought draw with the Dragons having to come from behind. After starting well, SB dominated the attack to score twice. The Dragons were frustrated but knew they had the measure of SB and duly equalised. Staying in the game was key and the Dragons did just that by scoring a late equaliser. The feeling after was that they should have won.
The Blues narrowly lost 1-2 to FC Sunbury away in Round 2 of the Divisional Cup. The Blues were looking for retribution after losing to FC Sunbury earlier this month. The Dragons were markedly improved this time but could not overcome Sunbury. There is yet a third chance in two weeks’ time in the League return leg.
The Old Dragonians just lost 0-1 at home to Grove Park Rangers. The Dragons walked away from the game without a win because they were not clinical in front of goal, wasting eight clear cut chances that would surely have made for a comfortable three points. The Dragons eagerly await the reverse fixture so they can put the record straight and predict a riot in front of goal
The U12 Girls beat St Josephs 7-0 at home in the Cup. A great performance from every single Dragon. While there is a little more to work on, and despite St Josephs putting up a good fight, the Dragons showed their mettle.
The U14 Girls beat Ealing Trailfinders 8-3 at home. A triumphant win for the Dragons who trounced local rivals Ealing Trailfinders in front of home fans. Such is the quality of the Dragons that they were annoyed that they had conceded three goals on their way to secure the three points.
The U17 Girls won 6-1 at home to Alexandra Park. The Dragons started the game with 9 players due to unavailability and transport problems. This however did not stop them as they put in their best performance of the season. Solid in defence, mesmerising on the counterattack, they were just too much for Alexandra Park who had a full complement of 5 subs. Whilst this was an amazing team performance, a special mention must go to to the lone Dragons forward who scored all 6 goals in a masterclass!
The U11 Boys beat Pinner United 4-2 away. The Dragons took the field against the much bigger and more experienced opponents but carried on where they left off in their last outing. They dominated the early exchanges with the only criticism being they were wastefulness in front of goal. The deadlock was finally broken against the run of play and under very debatable circumstances. Clearly affected, the Dragons then conceded a second goal five minutes before halftime. A stern half time talk galvanised the young Dragons and they came out all guns blazing, outscoring Pinner to earn a well-deserved victory to extend their unbeaten run.
The U12 Boys drew 0-0 in normal time to Kefa at home in the Cup and then won 2-1 on penalties. The Dragons were equal contributors to this entertaining draw in this cup tie where neither side could find the clinical finish to go ahead. In the end, goalkeeping heroics won the penalty shootout for the Dragons to send them into the next round.
The U13 Boys Red lost at home to Pinner United. The Dragons were raring to go but found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreline by the break. They played a much better second half and found the net as many times as Pinner had in the first, alas, Pinner also continued to score.
The U13 Boys White were narrowly beaten 2-3 away to Bessingby Park. The Dragons showed a lot of heart to get back into the game after going 0-2 down. Unfortunately, bad reffing, that even a neutral would agree to, cost them getting something out of the game against top of the League Bessingby.
The U14 Boys just lost 3-4 to Southall Athletic in the Cup. A tight game with both teams displaying their vast skill sets and attributes, but this time around the Dragons’ opponents were stronger.
The U15 Boys lost 3-6 away to Wealdstone in the Second Round of the Middlesex Cup. The start for the Dragons was a bit of a shocker; before one could say “where can I find a parking space in Sidmouth Drive” they were 0-3 down. From then on it was a far better performance by the Dragons; they had pulled back to 1-3 by half time and then it was almost evens bar a couple of unfortunate slip ups towards the end.
The U16 Boys lost to AEK away in the Cup. The Dragons had a rather patched up side for a trip to AEK FC. While the players cannot be faulted as they put in 110% effort, the Dragons came up short against last year’s Cup winners.
The U18 Boys lost 1-5 at home against Chase Side Claret in the Second Round of the Middlesex Cup. The Dragons are almost the complete footballing article with everyone in the squad an accomplished player. Their weakness however is to indulge in the occasional wobble after a set back – a dangerous luxury at the standard they are now playing – it only takes a second to score a goal. For most of the match the Dragons matched Chase – a very good side who however needed no second invitation to pounce on an opportunity. There will come a time this season when an inner resilient steel will become firmly planted in every Dragons soul and then they will sweep to win after win. In the meantime, they need to remember “Wobbles Lead to Losses”
The U10 Boys trained in preparation for the League.
