The Dragons are cranking into gear to score more goals than their combined oppositions whilst holding their own against current League leaders. The 2024/5 season is shaping up well:
The Firsts drew 2-2 at home to League leaders Hayes and Hillingdon. The Dragons are improving week by week although the best is still to come. The Dragons’ opening goal was probably the best passage of football by either side. H&H replied with a rocket from a free kick. The Dragons then pulled ahead again but alas H&H equalised after sustained pressure. Interestingly HH were ruled offside repeatedly after goal mouth scrambles lead to HH scoring what proved to be disallowed goals. In these tight matches neutral competent linesmen are crucial. This was a tight match where a draw was a fair result.
The Blues lost 1-3 away to unbeaten League leaders Kodak. The match was always going to be a challenge for the Blues playing away. They played valiantly and took positives from scoring away from home against such a ruthless team.
The Old Dragonians just lost 1-2 at home to Pro FA Hammersmith. This was a tactical battle with two well matched teams. PFAH started strongly having the early chunk of possession and territory. As the Dragons grew into the match they suddenly conceded from a PFAH corner. The Dragons replied by mixing possession with occasional long balls to convert from a great cross to make the score 1-1. The game remained tight with PFAH grabbing another shock goal on a breakaway. The Old Ds hit the bar in the dying minutes to be denied a deserved draw.
The New U11 Boys away match against Belmont Bees was called off as the Bees could not raise a side. Three points to the Dragons.
The U12 Boys beat Harrow St Marys 4-2 away. The Dragons played well to recover from the early shock of going 0-1 down to take home all three points after fighting back to put daylight between them and HSM.
The U13 Boys Reds beat Northwood 8-3 at home. The Dragons took am early lead with two goals in the first 15 minutes but by half time Northwood United had pulled back to 2-2. The Dragons completely dominated the second half and ran riot in front of goal, with three players trying to complete a hatrick. This was a confident win for the Dragons.
The U13 Boys White beat Singh Sabha 5-1 away. What a performance! The Dragons never gave up and were rewarded with a massive win and their first three points of the season. The Dragons will get many more if they continue to put in performances like this.
The U14 Boys beat Singh Sabha 5-1 away. Another good performance from the Dragons who will have to develop some humility in order not to be overconfident in their next game. As their Coach said, “The best second half of the season so far where we executed the game plan to perfection and demonstrated great team spirit.”
The U15 Boys just lost to London Athletic 5-6 at home in an eleven-goal belter. This was a very much better performance from the Dragons who are getting over the shock of having been promoted two divisions. London Athletic had won their first three matches and so assumed that they would beat the Dragons with ease and that is how it looked for a while. The Dragons however finally kicked into gear and showed why they had won their division last season. A neutral observer would have judged a 5-5-draw to be a fair result as one of LA’s goals was scored after a clear handball.
The U16 Boys beat Forest United 6-0 at home. The Dragons started the game eager to get an early goal and their relentless pressure paid off. They created chance after chance and were 2-0 up at halftime. The second half continued in the same vein as they launched attack after attack to find another four goals. A solid job well done.
The U18 Boys lost 0-3 to Harrow United at home. This was a very much closer fought match than it might appear. The two sides were evenly matched for most of the game with the Dragons improving yet again from the previous week. The Dragons suffered a short wobble to concede rather more than planned before attacking Harrow’s goal and being unlucky not to score.
The U10 Boys trained in preparation for the League.
The U12 Girls lost away to Enfield Town. The Dragons played well and kept on going – they can hold their heads up high. This time around, they were unable to keep up with Ealing but will take the lessons learned.
The U14 Girls beat Ealing Trailfinders 3-2 away in the Cup. A great win for the Dragons in their first Cup test that will send a message to the rest of the competition that they are ready and willing to fight on both league and cup fronts.
The U15 Girls narrowly lost 3-5 away to Barnet Nightingales. An eventful game with big positives to take away. With a more sustained concentration, the Dragons may have been able to close the gap – practice makes perfect.
The U17 Girls were beaten by Broomwood at home in the Cup. Despite being a player light the Dragons more than matched the unbeaten Broomwood and were level 30 minutes in. Unable to play their way through a resolute defence, Broomwood tried a succession of long-range shots which eventually bore fruit 3 times before the half time whistle. Not deterred, the Dragons battled hard in the 2nd period but unfortunately conceded again. Despite the loss, a good defensive performance for long periods from the 10 Dragons.
