On Saturday, the Firsts beat Indian Gymkhana 5-0 at home. It was a scrappy match where the Dragons got dragged into a dogged game. Although the Dragons did not play their best fluent football, their quality saw them score a clutch of goals to win comfortably.
On Tuesday, the Firsts lost 0-2 to Larkspur at home. A flat midweek affair after a short turn around from Saturday’s match. The Dragons dominated but couldn’t turn the dominance into points.
The Blues had no game.
The Old Dragonians were awarded an automatic win over London Samurai who forfeited the game.
The U16 Girls beat Broomwood Swans 10-0 at home. This was another dominant display from the Dragons. They put together some nice passages of play and moved the opposition defence into areas that created spaces to exploit with goals. It would be fair to say that Broomwood worked hard up to the final minute but the Dragons side were superior – their goalkeeper did not have one save to make.
The U15 Girls home game to Goffs Oak was postponed.
The U13 Girls were beaten 2-6 at home by Impact FC. The first half started slowly and the Dragons were clearly not at the races. The Coach asked for a response in the half time talk and a completely different second half ensued. The Dragons‘ fightback was fantastic as they dominated the majority of the period.
The U12 Boys beat Pinner United 5-0 at home in the League Trophy. This really was a fantastic squad effort. The subs (game changers) listened to instructions and executed well. The concentration levels were brilliant and the desire to recover the ball impressive. The Dragons are going to be the team to beat so they need to continue to control the controllable, work hard and trust each other. They have set a standard which they must maintain until the end of the season.
The U14 Boys White lost 1-3 away at Larkspur Rovers. The Dragons lost the game as opposed to the opposition winning. Despite dominating for large periods, the Dragons were not clinical with the opportunities presented. Larkspur however were very direct and played long balls behind the Dragons‘ rearguard and as a result were gifted 3 soft goals. All in all, a decent campaign with 10 league wins and consolidation. Looking forward to next season when promotion should be achievable.
The U15 Boys beat Southall Athletic 3-0 away. This was a good performance from the Dragons where everything they had been practicing in training came together – great to see from a Coach’s point of view.
The U17 Boys narrowly lost 1-2 away to Celtic in the League Trophy. Very close margins were a key feature of this game with the Dragons fighting hard to get the better of Celtic who are in the division above. On another day, the result may well have flipped the Dragons way, and it shows that they can contest well at a higher level.
The U10, U11, U13, U14 Red and U16 Boys all had no games.
