Tough season opener for the U13s

Middlesex CUP U13 1ST Round

Kensington Dragons 0 -6  Enfield Youth FC

We welcomed our opposition from Div 1 of the Chesunt League on a cloudy but warm day at St Marks for a Middx cup tie.

The game started fairly evenly but the Dragons fell behind from a corner that should have been cleared from our 6 yard box but found its way to an Enfield striker to apply the finish, It was a case of déjà vu a few minutes later as another corner lead to the opposition 2nd goal, a third was added later in the half.

The Dragons respond with a shot that smashed against the crossbar and a seemingly good goal ruled out by a dubious off side decision. But Enfield deserved their half time lead and only a series of saves from our keeper from goal mouth scrambles and last ditch defending prevented an even more one sided score.

Looking for a fast start to the second half, the Dragons were nearly further behind straight from the kick as Enfield cut through and only a last ditch tackle saved us from conceding a fourth. However, this galvanised the team into action and a great move saw one of our midfield burst into the penalty area but put his shot wide with only the keeper to beat. The Dragons were then awarded a penalty after the winger was brought down in the box, but again the effort went wide. The rest of the game was a pattern of the Dragons pressing but with Enfield always looking dangerous on the break, they added a further 3 goals to their halftime score. Hopefully we will see a reaction from the team next week as we begin our League campaign.
