U13s edged out in Brentham thriller

Brentham Colts 4 v 3 Kensington Dragons U13s

A warmish Autumn morning greeted the U13s on their trip to Brentham, on a tight pitch and an opposition containing 3 players who size would have not have been out of place in a first team fixture. Brentham opened the scoring following a goal mouth scramble as the ball fell to one of their players on the 6 yard line and he lashed the ball into the net. The Dragons replied with a great run and rasping shot from our striker.

Then came the first of a couple of controversial decisions by the ref as a Brentham attacker scored from the angle of the box with two of their strikers standing offside in our 6 yard area. A discussion about the offside interference rule then followed but the Ref was unmoved and awarded the goal. Both teams were unable to make head way through the congested middle of the field, but Dragons looked dangerous when the ball was played out wide and further chances where created but not finished.

The Ref then did not further endear himself to the U13s management team when he overruled the Brentham linesman’s call of giving the Dragons a throw-in and as the Dragons pushed up, the ref gave the decision the other way. This was quickly taken by the opposition causing us to be short at the back and Brentham plundered their 3rd goal. The team then showed their fighting spirit and pulled the score back to 3-2 as our midfielder jinked his way past two defenders and slipped a great pass through to our striker who with the outside of his foot coolly slipped the ball past the on rushing goalie. Unfortunately, Brentham regained their 2 goal advantage scoring from a great overhead kick from a corner.

The Dragons replied to make it 4-3 and had a great chance to equalise late in the game but the shot went past the post and this is how this highly entertaining game finished.
