Sunnier, drier times are here – we think!
We hope you have enjoyed the season so far – win or lose it is better to be out in the fresh air, getting exercise and learning how to be resilient in the face of all sorts of vicissitudes. Winning is great, but losing is not without its benefits. It does however cost money to run our teams. Nobody is prevented from playing for the Dragons for financial reasons. Whilst other clubs charge £1,000/season we charge nothing. We rely on kind parents and supporters making voluntary donations and applying for grants. Incredibly it works and no player has ever been prevented from playing for the Dragons for financial reasons. If you can help please click the DONATE button.
We will be making a step change next season as we have been working with the LBHF and WSCT to improve the facilities for local people at Linford Christie Stadium. Please email me if you would like to get involved.
For those who are kind enough to donate your reward will not just be in heaven – you will secure a much sought after invitation to our Supporters’ Reception on Tuesday 25th March. Onto the results:
The Firsts narrowly lost 2-3 to London Tigers at home. The strong start leading to a goal from the Dragons looked promising – then faded. After going one up the Dragons allowed Tigers back into the game and extend their lead to 1-3. Despite pulling one back, a late onslaught on the Tigers goal was not enough.
The Blues and the Old Dragonians had no games.
The U15 Girls beat Aspire FC 3-1 in the much delayed League Cup Quarter-Final. This was a sound result taking the Dragons to the next stage of the League Cup! The Dragons will look forward to the Semi-Final this coming weekend.
The U14 Girls played a friendly against Alexandra Park.
The U12 Girls lost 1-3 away at Alexandra Park in a contest much tighter than it seems. It was a commanding performance from the Dragons who played with great patterns of play, accurate passing, and a desire to win first and second balls. It would have ended 1-1 but for the lucky goals from Alexandra Park against the run of play.
The New U11 Boys drew 1-1 at home to Pro FA. What a performance from the Dragons! they arguably played their best game this season when viewed from the chances to score. The Dragons deserved much more from their creative efforts but it was not to be.
The U12 Boys beat Headstone Manor 8-0 at home. A dominant performance saw the Dragons walk away as comfortable winners. They look to finish the season in strong fashion.
The U13 Boys Reds lost 1-3 away at London Eagles. This was a match that the Dragons desperately wanted to win. Rather than press the top three, the result pulls them into a top four battle, albeit one they are still winning.
The U13 Boys Whites lost 0-3 away at Wealdstone. The scoreline does not reflect the performance from the fast-improving Dragons. With illness, injuries and players fasting, they deserve much credit. A disallowed goal and missed opportunities saw the Dragons scoreless whilst Wealdstone, with their incredibly noisy coach and an infective referee, scored three fortuitous goals. That said this was another good performance with positives.
The U14 Boys beat Parkfield 10-1 away. Most simply put by the Manager, “The Dragons have found their way again.”
The U15 Boys lost 2-6 away to Kodak. Despite the logistical difficulty of getting to the pitch for the unusually early morning KO, the Dragons started well to go two goals up. There was however a shocking spell in the second half when Kodak thumped in goals in quick succession. The Dragons pulled themselves together but by then it was too late.
The U16 Boys lost 1-4 away at Celtic. The Dragons came up against the League’s leaders who have lost once all season. Try as they did to inflict Celtic’s second loss, the home side proved too strong.
The U18 Boys lost 1-3 away in the Premier Division to Harrow United. The Dragons scored first from a penalty and then their second goal was denied due to a questionable refereeing decision. The match was fast, furious, and exciting. Harrow will be pleased with their win as they were very fortunate that so many of the Dragons’ shots on goal either hit the crossbar or were scrambled off the goal line.
The U10 Boys trained in preparation for the League.
