A narrow defeat for the U13s

Venceremos 2 v 1 Kensington Dragons U13s

The game was in doubt right up to kick off with the sun just having enough heat to thaw the pitch to allow the game to go ahead. Unfortunately the heat didn’t warm the team up and we got caught cold, conceding in the first few minutes of the game as the Dragons were guilty of failing to clear the ball and it eventually fell to an opposition striker who put the ball just passed our keeper’s outstretched hands. It looked like a second would follow at any time as the Dragons goal was under constant pressure and only some solid defending from our make shift centre half, who normally plays in midfield, and our keeper making some good saves kept the constant attacks at bay.

A strong halftime talk from the coach lit the fire in our midfield who were overrun in the first half now were harrying and putting in some solid tackles. Our equaliser was crafted as our midfielder played a great pass out to our left winger who played the ball first time to our striker in the penalty box who swivelled and planted the ball in the opposition net with a great finish.

Veneceremos come straight back into the game and only the post saved us from going behind, we did not heed this warning as a long ball was allowed to bounce and bisect the defence and goal keeper allowing their striker to pass the ball into the net, our goal was now leading a charmed life with the post hit and a headed clearance off the line. But still we sensed we could grab a point but squandered a one on one with the keeper and a shot which narrowly went the wrong side of the post leaving us without the points.
