With the last few matches to play:

The U11 Girls beat Hearts of Tedlothian 7-0 away. The Dragons played in their usual fabulous style to totally dominate from start to finish. Another great performance.

The U12s drew 2 – 2 with TFA Bushey at home. This was a very tense match, with Bushey battering away at the Dragons goal in increasing frustration as the brave Dragons repulsed most attacks. Bushey are a good team and had beaten the Dragons 9-0 at their last encounter, so the resulting draw showed how much the Dragons have improved.    

The U13 Boys convincingly beat the Spartans 4-1 in the Semi Final of the League Challenge Cup to go through to the Final on Sunday May 12^th.  An impartial onlooker would have never doubted that the Dragons would win. The Final will prove a tougher challenge.

The U14s beat Brook House 6-2 at home to secure the title. This was an altogether secure performance – the Dragons knew they had to win to claim the title so that is what they did – convincingly. The massed fans were ecstatic as they had every right to be.

The U16 Reds just lost 2-3 at home in the quarter finals of the League Challenge Cup to Ickenham at home. After a lifeless first half the Dragons took the lead early in the second, via a converted penalty. The Dragons then conceded twice in quick succession from set pieces before being handed a lifeline, from a converted penalty, to level the game. Ickenham were then awarded yet another penalty to score their winning goal. Irritating. 

Fancy some healthy exercise? This coming Monday 6th May the U16s have organised a 5K run/walk to fundraise for their tour. Start outside LCS stadium at 10am. Only £5 entry fee – everybody welcome.

Fellow Dragons

With the Easter holiday season upon us there was little action last weekend and there will be even less this coming one:

The Reserves beat Centenary Park 3-2 away in the most trying of circumstances. Despite missing players, including their gaolie, the Dragons started well and went in front, via a swift defence build-up which culminated in a great finish! The Dragons second goal was disallowed by the Ref and so it remained 1-0 to the Dragons at half time. The second half again started well for the Dragons as they doubled their lead. All looked set for a straightforward Dragons victory but alas tiredness kicked in and, with 10 minutes to go, Centenary created 2 shots at goal from outside the box and both went in! Surely history could not repeat itself to again leave the Dragons letting slip a clear victory in the dying minutes. The last opportunity fell to Dragons from a corner kick. The whole Dragons team filled Centenary’s box, determined to snatch the winning goal, which they duly did, in the last minute of the match. A tremendous, and exciting, victory.

The sun shone on the ever-resilient Dragons as they prospered whilst clubs with better facilities floundered:

The U11 Boys beat Kodak 5-0 at home to record at least their 12^th win in a row. This was a close match in the first half and for much of the second, but Kodak eventually wilted and by the end were happy for the final whistle to blow. The Dragons cannot expect to win every match so eventually there will be a reverse, but possibly not this season.    

The U11 Girls beat Kinja 4-0 away. The Dragons again began in their usual attacking mode, determined to keep their winning streak going.  At half time they were 2-0 up and feeling confident.  The half time talk motivated the Dragons to dig even deeper and to step up their performance, which they duly did. Excellent team work was soon rewarded with a third goal. The Dragons dominated and never looked like losing in a fantastic performance.  

U12s drew 3-3 with ruthless top of the table Polish United, who have the temerity to also call themselves the Dragons. On the beautiful sunny, spring morning the Dragons fans politely wished their team well whilst the more robust opposition became increasingly frustrated at their inability to win. The match seemed destined to go against Kensington Dragons, but they kept their composure, refused to wilt and fought back to gain a rightly deserved point.

The U13 Boys thrashed London Athletic 8-0 away in the Trophy Cup. The Dragons put in one of their most clinical performances as the weeks of practicing distributing wide, to cross back into the box, paid off with some brilliant finishes.   The Dragons also scored from an incredible strike from outside the box, whilst managing to keep a clean sheet with an impressive last-minute header by the centre back to clear his line.  One more win should send the Dragons into the semi-finals.  

The U13 Girls just lost 1-2 away to top of the league Stoke Newington. The Dragons scored early and managed to keep the lead until half time despite several opportunities on both sides, in a very pleasant and open game. During the second half Stoke pushed and scored from afar to equalise. The Dragons eventually lost the game in the last minute through a controversial goal. The return match on May 11th promises to be fierce ! 

The U14s beat Brook House 3-0 at home in the Trophy Cup.  Brook House were one of the few teams they had lost against in the league and the Dragons knew they had to demonstrate why they are serious contenders to win the league. It was 0-0 at half time despite both teams having scoring opportunities. The second half was more physical,  but with tactical changes the Dragons dominated to score 3 stunning goals, including a header!

The U15’s beat Hanwell 5-1 away in the Trophy Cup. The Dragons were badly in need of a win and, having been beaten by Hanwell 0-3 a few weeks ago, were expecting a tough match. The Dragons had nothing to lose and made quick work of a stunned opposition thanks, in large part, to a brilliant display of quick passing and a hat trick. 

U16s Reds beat Wealdstone 2-1 at home in the Trophy Cup.  The Dragons knew that a win was needed to progress to the quarter finals. The game was finely poised as both teams had beaten each other once this season. It started off scrappily, with no team making the best of clear cut chances until the Dragons calmly slotted home. At half time the Dragons were told to keep the ball on the ground. All was going well when a shocking decision awarded Wealdstone a converted penalty. The Dragons drew a deep collective breath and soon regained the lead and then saw the game out with some good saves from their stand-in goalkeeper.

 The Firsts had no match

 The Reserves drew 3-3 with LNER. This was a scrappy first half from the Dragons who conceded a cheap penalty then conceded again from poor communication between their defence and keeper. The second half saw a much better performance from the Dragons who managed, despite the strong wind, to go ahead 3-2, only for LNER to equalise from a defensive blunder. The Dragons could have won at the end when their veteran striker found himself 1 on 1 with LNER’s keeper but was not able to convert!

 The U16 Reds beat MDD 3 – 2 at home in the Trophy Cup. The Dragons went into their second cup game against a team they had previously beaten. The Dragons started slowly and conceded early before scoring two goals in quick succession to go into the lead at half time. The second half was a battle up-hill in the wind for the Dragons as they again conceded early before immediately replying.  The Dragons then dug in and saw out the game to win 3-2, with their goalie saving a penalty.

 The U16 Whites just lost 3-4 at home in the Trophy Cup against Brook House in an exciting, but ultimately frustrating match.

 The U13 boys beat Brentham 7-2 away in the Trophy Cup. The Dragons could have been 5 – 0 up at half time but had only put in 2 goals.  They then lost focus to let in 2 gaols and be tied with 20 mins left!  Urgent action was needed. The Dragons regained their form and put in 5 quick goals in a 15 min rush.  Another good win in the mud!

 The U11s Girls beat Victoria Park Rangers 5-1 away. The Dragons got off to a slow start, allowing Victoria Park to dominate, but as the game progressed they began taking back control and were soon rewarded with their first goal.  This drove the Dragons on and made them even more determined to win.  Another great performance and result.

With our sun wear packed away again it was back to squelching around in the mud:

The Firsts drew 2-2 with Cricklewood at LCS. The Dragons started well but it was not until the 34th min that they scored the first goal. The second half started in the best possible way when Cricklewood’s goalie punched away a shot, only for it land happily in front of a grateful Dragon to score.  The Dragons were controlling the game at 2-0 up. Disaster however struck ten minutes before the final whistle. A Dragons defender thought the referee had called Cricklewood off side and picked up the ball only for the Ref to award Cricklewood a penalty. The resulting goal sapped the Dragons’ energy and three minutes before the final whistle they gave away a free kick which was deflected into their net to leave the match a draw.

The U11 Boys beat TFA Bushey away 5-3. The Dragons looked generally in control, but Bushey had some excellent players and at one point were edging close with 2 goals to the Dragons 3. This was not a day to be wearing trainers and as Bushey rushed around, some Dragons were slipping and sliding in their trainers. All however was not lost as the Dragons managed to pull ahead to almost crush Bushey.

The U11s Girls beat Pitshanger 3-1 away. The game began with two early goal attempts from the Dragons but unfortunately this was followed by an early Pitshanger goal.  Undeterred the Dragons kept up the pressure, based on their strong defence,  and were soon rewarded with a goal.  The Dragons refused to relax to pull well ahead in a good performance from all.

 The U13 Girls lost 1-3 to Whetstone. It was very tight in the first half as both teams fought for the opening goal.  Whetstone broke the deadlock in the second half, from a scramble in the box, as their shot came off the post to take the lead before scoring another. With 90 seconds to go the Dragons got back into the game, with a powerful shot in the box resulting in a goal. Before Whetstone gained a one-on-one to score the ‘killer third’ to seal the result.

The U13 Boys beat Forest United 1-0 at home in the Trophy Cup in a scrappy match.  Although the Dragons owned much of the possession and had two shots come off the post, they needed a few big saves from their keeper to ensure the 3 points.  There was even some classic Sunday drama with Forest complaining that LCS pitch being too big but cooler heads prevailed and the Dragons persevered in the springtime mud to win. 

The U14 beat Cademy 9-1 away.  The Dragons needed to win to ensure they are crowned Division 1 Champions. Cademy could only muster 9 players so, in a sportsmanship spirit, the Dragons agreed to also only play with 9. The Dragons scored first but then a lack of communication exposed their defence and Cademy scored to make it 1-1 at the break. The inspirational half time talk by the Coach encouraged the Dragons to move the ball quickly and  shoot when faced with a chance. Did the Dragons listen? They certainly did as they zoomed and va-va-voomed around the pitch to pile on the goals

Fellow Sun-baked Dragons

The Seniors lead the way this weekend:

The Firsts beat Indian Gymkhana 5-2 away. The Dragons started in the best possible way and were 3-0 up within ten minutes, before sitting back to protect their goal. The Referee awarded a penalty to Gymkhana only for it to be saved by the Dragons goalie. Gymkhana were not finished however and scored a header just before half time. They then put everything into scoring again which put the Dragons under huge pressure in the burning heat. Before long it was 3-2 but with the Dragons keeping their lead as they withstood the onslaught before focused, brilliant whole team play gave the Dragons another 2 goals to secure the very important 3 points.

 The Reserves beat Stonewall 3-1 at home. The Dragons started slowly, with Stonewall putting them under pressure with high balls, but it was the Dragons who scored first. They then controlled the game as Stonewall tired chasing the match. The Dragons were ahead 2-0 at the break. Stonewall clawed a goal back, from yet another set piece with the Dragons miscommunicating in defence.  The Dragons have however lately been showing lots of character and this game was no exception as they increased their lead to 2 goals, with a fantastic strike from outside the box. The Dragons held on to win, despite finishing with 10 players after their defender was injured in the 80th minute.

 The U11 Boys beat Wealdstone 6-3 at home to continue their long winning streak. The Dragons are approaching the end of their first season and really are committed to ending unbeaten. With many key Dragon players on their half term holidays some U10s were drafted in to help the team. This was a tough and well fought match but, at the final whistle, the Dragons had recorded yet another win.

The U12s lost to TFA Bushey in the wilds of Watford by more than planned. The game was played in perfect conditions on a spring like morning but unfortunately that was the only highlight of the day for the Dragons. Bushey started with an intensity and superior workmanlike manner that the more refined Dragons never quite got to grips with. Bushey were the superior team. Life is a marathon and a thumping by a better team is just one more experiment in the rich tapestry of a footballer’s life.

 The U13 Boys lost 0-3 away to Wealdstone. The Dragons put in a strong effort against the very good Wealdstone but it was not enough on the day.

 The U14s beat St Joseph’s away 4-0. The Dragons were desperate to get a result having lost twice before to St Josephs. They showed great discipline when defending and ruthless finishing when attacking. An altogether great performance

 The U15s lost 0-3 to Hanwell at home. This was a dispiriting effort from the Dragons – but at least it was sunny. 

 The U16s Reds just lost 4-5 to  Hendon away in the Trophy Cup. The Dragons scored twice early to take a 2-0 lead into the second half but then threw it away by conceding two sloppy goals. Hendon then went ahead after converting a penalty, before the Dragons headed the ball in to draw level and then scored again before Hendon equalised. Alas Hendon scored the last goal to win 5-4. This was a good display from the Dragons, against Premier opposition, with a stand in keeper.

Fellow Spring Loving Dragons

With half term there were fewer matches that normal as the Dragons claimed their first title of the season:

The Reserves soundly beat Benfica 5-1 at home. This was a sweet victory for the Dragons who had earlier lost to Benfica with an understrength side. The Dragons opened the scoring to be 4-0 up by the interval. A disappointing lapse from a set piece then allowed Benfica a goal before the Dragons put the game beyond doubt with another gaol.

 The U16s Reds walloped Pinner 8-0 away to claim the Division 1 title in empathic style. The Dragons scored first from a penalty and then carried on scoring to be 4-0 up 10 minutes into the second half before pressing on to score another 4. This has been an excellent season with the team winning the title with one game to spare. It is now on to the Challenge Trophy.

The U15s lost 1-3 away to Sandgate in the Cup. A strong start from the Dragons saw them go 1-0 up before quickly shipping in three terrible goals – all from sloppy defending. Half time saw the score at 1-3 and that is how it remained for the rest of the match.

The U11 Boys beat London Athletic  6-2 away to continue their winning streak. Despite the Dragons missing many key players their organised defence, tight midfield and creative attacking won through to record another decisive win

Fellow Soggy Dragons

The weather may have improved but at the weekend the Dragons waded through mud to:

The U11 Boys beat Hillingdon 5-3 on the Scrubs. With recent matches cancelled the Dragons started nervously to be 1-2 down at half time. The fans and players were upset and inspirational talks were needed during the break to restore morale which lead to an incredible come back and win, including missing a penalty before scoring on the rebound. The Dragons continue their winning streak.

The U11 Girls did not play

The U12 Boys lost 2-4 away to ProF on a muddy pitch in a game they could have won. As the Dragons fans squelched on the touch line the Dragons rampaged down the hill in the second half trying to claw back the goal deficit. It was not to be but the fans admired both teams for keeping going in such atrocious conditions. Character building!  

The U13s Girls did not play

The U13s beat Vencermos 4-0 on the Scrubs in swamp like conditions.  The Dragons may have kept a clean sheet but their keeper certainly needed at bath at the end. Thanks must go to all the parents who braved the conditions –  their good energy helped keep the Dragons motivated.

The U15s lost away to London Tigers in poor conditions which do not bear dwelling on

The  U16 Reds beat Chiswick 2-0 at LCS in their final home league match. The Dragons knew that a point would be enough to gain promotion to the Premiership. The match started scrappily and, despite opportunities for both sides, it was goal less at half time. The first Dragons goal came from a square pass to be calmly placed into the bottom left. The second came at the final whistle. The Dragons need one more point for the title to complete a fantastic season.

The U16 Whites lost at home to Celtic.  The visitors took the lead and before their keeper deliberately handled outside the area to prevent a certain goal, injuring the Dragons striker in the process. Had that goal gone in it might have made a big difference. As it was Celtic turned the game into a scrap and that played in to their hands. A day to forget.

The Reserves just lost 1-2 away to Ruislip Town.  The Dragons did not capitalise on hard fought scoring opportunities as they failed to score from 2 clear chances of 1 on 1s with Ruislip’s keeper. The Dragons struggled to deal with set pieces and it cost them the game

Fellow Wintry Dragons,

With snow earlier in the week pitches were waterlogged and matches called off:

The U12s lost 2-4 against Hanwell in an exciting match.  This was a hard fought game played with an emphasis on attacking play and end to end football. The Dragons were 2 nil down at half time but fought back with 2 goals and more looked on the cards  but Hanwell hung on to take the three points.

The U16 Reds lost 1-4 away to top of the premier West Drayton in their second ever Harrow Cup semi-final.  West Drayton had only lost one game all season but the Dragons came out the better team for much of the time and almost scored in the first 30 seconds. Drayton took the lead after the Dragons failed to clear a free kick and went in to half time in the lead. After the break the Dragons started the stronger, winning a penalty after being taken down in the box to draw level. Drayton regained the lead from a long throw in and then doubled their advantage after a world class strike from their centre midfielder. As the Dragons tried to salvage something they were caught out on the counter attack to concede. The score line does not give the Dragons performance justice

Fellow Waterlogged Dragons

With a deluge on Saturday most matches were called off:

The U11s Girls beat Kinja at home 6-2.  Despite the muddy and cold conditions the Dragons showed their spirit.  Within the first few minutes they fired the ball into the back of Kinja’s net and then quickly followed with another. Despite missing their goalkeeper the Dragons were bold and kept on attacking to bang in another four goals.

The U13 Girls beat Broomwood 12-0 on Wormwood Scrubs. This was a stunning performance from the Dragons who at half-time were already in the driving seat leading 4-0. They kept working hard and were hungry for goals and scored another 8 to finish with a massive victory

 The U16 Whites lost 1-3 away to Brook House.  Amid a hailstorm, the Dragons went 2 nil down but were offered a lifeline in the form of a penalty, just before the interval, which alas they squandered. In the second half the Dragons found an extra gear and piled on the pressure resulting in a well-taken, long-range goal. As they pushed for the equaliser they were caught with a sucker punch which made the score line look more one-sided than the Dragons deserved.

The Firsts lost away to St. Panteleimon . The Dragons started well and In the 10th minute found themselves in front of an empty goal but a difficult shot just missed. The game was then equal with both teams creating few opportunities . St. Panteleimon took the lead in 18th min before the Dragons equalized. Just before half time the referee gave St. Panteleimon a penalty on incomprehensible grounds. It took time to clarify the situation but the referee did not change his mind leaving St. Panteleimon to score. The  Dragons then fell apart and lost faith to allow St. Panteleimon to pull ahead and win.  One bad refereeing decision had changed everything.

The Reserves drew 2-2 with Cantenay Park at Linford Christ Stadium. The Dragons played well in the first half and then much less well in the second. The match was spoilt by a string of poor refereeing decisions to leave the match an unsatisfactory draw with two clear penalties not awarded to the Dragons
