There are still a couple of weeks to go before we are at full speed. Fixtures are being released but with fewer matches than usual as many grass pitches are not yet ready to be used. Whilst the recent rain has been welcomed it is nowhere near enough to nourish football grounds after the hottest and driest summer on record.
Thank You
It takes many people giving freely of their time to run a football club – from Managers to Coaches to others running the line to parents giving lifts etc and of course our Operations Committee working tirelessly. Paradoxically it is often the busiest who are the most reliable and generous with their time. Neither the Government nor the Council is going to step in and run the club – we must rely on ourselves to make it work. The scale of our operation will grow this season and with it more help will be needed. Looking ahead it will take us until Christmas to get the Den fully operational so come the New Year we will be advertising for volunteers to help with some of the additional tasks that will need doing .
Works at the Den:
The changing rooms and WC block are now being used. There remains work to be done – not least repairing the odd leak. Our aim remains to be fully operational by Christmas.
Referee’s Training Course: We are running a course, under the auspices of the MCFA, at the Den during half term on 26&27 October. Any Dragon over 14 is welcome to apply – simply email Angela at Fixtures@KensingtonDragons.com and she will forward the link to sign up. To qualify as a referee participants will have to attend from 10am to 3pm on the two days and then attend another evening session before refereeing 5 matches with an assessor usually in support.
Work Experience:
Over the summer we were able to offer two Dragons works experience as a trial run. It was very successful in that the two Dragons were a great help to the club and they gained something from the experience. This is an area we will expand this season.
Dragons Alumnae:
We are compiling a complete list of players, with their email addresses, of everyone who has played for the Dragons since 2002. We have many in our records but of course most young players in 2002 did not have email addresses. Our eventual aim is to have a massive reunion with the teams playing each together. If anybody has a liking for such work and could help us please email operations@kensingtondragons.com for an informal chat.
Best wishes
