Parkfiled B 2 v 3 Kensington Dragons U11s
The boys had not played a match for a few weeks so there was a worry that this match would be difficult. To make things worse we only had 9 players come Sunday morning so we now had a huge mountain to climb.
The game started bright for the young dragons with the team talk still fresh in their ears 3 chances in the opening 5 minutes gave us the start that we were looking for. Parkfield were finding it hard to break down the well organised Dragons but were using their 2 man advantage to help try and create chances for themselves. The first goal came for Parkfield. A strong corner delivered across the face of goal and kicked into our own net, a goal clearly not deserved. From the restart the Dragons pushed forward to put pressure onto the opposition defence and within a few minutes after some great play on the right wing, the ball was cut back to the edge of the box for the Dragons striker to lob the ball magnificently into the top left of the goal. Parkfield now began to push forward also and just before the break they found the goal that put them into the lead going into half time.
The second started well for the Dragons and even though only playing with 9 players the boys were out playing the opposition and keeping the ball for long periods of play. We all knew that the next goal would be the most important and this proved to be so. A Parkfield attack broke down and off we were running at their defence at speed. A killer through ball straight between their central defenders opened up the chance for our pacey striker to slot past the keeper to equalize. We were now on top and creating chance after chance, the keeper making a wonderful save, smashing the inside of the post and dragging the ball just wide. The final goal finally came after some hard work from our midfield to regain possession and feed our clinical striker for his second. 10 minutes to go and the 2 man advantage began to show as our boys began to slow down and the Parkfield chances began to rain in. 2 clear cut opportunities to equalize but our stand-in goalie making 1 stop with his leg and tipping another just round the post to help the Dragons hang on for the 3 points.
A big well done to the boys playing in sunny conditions with 9 men and many of the players playing out of position.
