The Firsts lead the way with a thrilling win whilst the U15 Girls piled on the goals:
The Firsts beat Camden and Islington at home in a 9-goal thriller in a roller coaster. The Dragons dominated with a new starting front line that took them to a seemingly comfortable 3-0 lead. The Dragons were then harshly reminded of the realities of football when they gave away a penalty to allow C&I back into the game. The roller coaster ride started with C&I scoring a stunner to be followed by more, despite great saves from the Dragons keeper, to level the score at 4-4. It was a tense watch for Dragon fans from the stands but their new found potency up front found the edge to grab a well fought winner.
The Blues lost 1-3 to Southall Athletic away. This was an improved performance from the Dragons who should soon be back at the level they finished at last season when they won a whole string of matches.
The Old Dragonians just lost 2-3 to Chiswick Celtic away. The ODs were made to pay for not converting their chances after leading twice, both scores from long range efforts. The Dragons failed to put CC away and a 5 min spell saw CC score with a couple of fine strikes to take the lead. The Dragons tried to get a equaliser but hitting the post late on was the closest they got.
The U12 Girls lost at home to Enfield Town. Despite giving it their all, the Dragons just couldn’t keep up with Enfield who were the more ferocious team on the day
The U14 Girls did not play.
The U15 Girls beat Islington 6-2 at home. This was an absolute blinder first win of the season for the Dragons who played amazingly well against an old adversary. The Dragons are a fiery, fierce and skilful team who will contest everything this season. Much to look forward to.
The U17 Girls lost 2-5 away to Brent Schools. This was a frustrating day for the Dragons. The squad was depleted with late drop outs which meant they took to the field with 10 players. It was a fantastic effort by the 10 players but Brent Schools squad of 16 players meant they could refresh at crucial times and ultimately this proved decisive as fatigue finally caught up with the Dragons.
The U12 Boys beat Northfields United 3-0 at home. A good performance from the Dragons who dominated throughout. In the end, 3-0 was a generous scoreline for Northfields and if the Dragons had held their runs better – or indeed if the offside rule had not been invented – the score would have been far less flattering for Northfields.
The U13 Boys Red beat Belmont Bees 2-1 away. The Dragons worked really hard to get the result after conceding a penalty late in the game which handed BB a way back in. These young Dragons however never stopped believing in themselves and ensured that their first game of the season was also their first win.
The U13 Boys White narrowly lost 3-4 to Hanwell Town away. What a game! End to end throughout, with a great performance from the Dragons who deserved something only to concede in the last few minutes.
The U14 Boys lost 3-5 away to Southall Athletic. As the Dragons’ Coach said “We lost but we were not defeated” The Dragons know they need to up their game in the higher division, but a huge shout out to a new player, on his debut, scoring a delightful bicycle kick which flew into the top corner of the goal.
The U15 Boys lost to Inv3ntive away. Seldom had the Dragons travelled so far and played so late. The Dragons were let down by players pulling out late leaving them with a bare 11. An Inv3ntive parent refereed but, contrary to expectations, handled the game and an ugly incident well. He correctly sent off an Inv3ntive player for a dangerous tackle that lead to a Dragons player leaving the pitch. This should have left the Dragons with 11 against 10 but with no substitutes it remained 10 v 10 and so they lost. It is early days.
The U16 Boys were beaten by Regent’s Park 0-2 away. A game of two halves. In the first, the teams were evenly matched with both sides unable to make the most of the few chances created. When the Referee awarded RP two penalties there was some scepticism in the Dragon ranks as it left them 0-2 down at halftime. The Dragons dominated in the second period but just could not score
The U18 Boys lost in the Premiership to Brentham, last season’s Middlesex Cup Winners. Brentham only conceded 3 goals last season so they were shocked when the Dragons opened the scoring with a tremendous goal. The Dragons right midfielder charged up the wing to send a superb cross which found the leaping head of his teammate. It really was a beautiful goal. Brenthan were a very good side and the Dragons, this early in the season, were just not able to continue to play at their best, which they needed to do, and so lost.
The U11 and U10 Boys trained in preparation for the League.
