| A mixed week! On Tuesday, the Firsts beat Hilltop 8-5 at home. Then on Saturday, the Firsts drew 1-1 away at Kodak to wrap up their season and finish 6th in the Premier Division of the Middlesex County Football League. The season finale fizzled out in a draw as both teams struggled to play well on a terrible pitch with a delayed start. Although dominant throughout the Dragons couldn’t find the winner to beat Kodak and get over the line. The season has ended with the Dragons progressing up the league from last year and were the second top scorers – a huge 95 goals were banged into opposition nets. There is much to build on. The Blues beat West London Wanderers 9-1 at home in their penultimate game in the League. A great win against second placed WLW who were reduced to 10 players. The Dragons punished them mercilessly with a solid and strong performance. The League has been won, but the Dragons are fighting for second place to guarantee promotion as they move into the final game of the season next weekend. The Old Dragonians had no game. The U16 Girls beat Aspire 5-3 at home. What a way to end the season. With eight players unavailable, the Dragons took to the field with a bare 11 and a makeshift goalkeeper. Undeterred, they played with confidence and went after Aspire from the first whistle. Although they were pegged back for a brief period after taking the lead, such is the resilience of this group that they composed themselves and came roaring forwards to lead 4-1 at half time. Injuries then reduced the Dragons to 9 players but they battled on to eventually win 5-3. Today showed the importance of a good squad and a positive mindset. The U15 Girls lost to Regents Park in the Final of the League Cup. The Dragons went into the game feeling strong and resolute, aware of the history they could bring to the Club. In the opening stages the game was tense with both teams cancelling each other out. RP began to up the tempo but couldn’t break through a well-organised Dragons defence. Chances appeared for the Dragons but at half time the game hung in the balance at 0-0. The second period turned joy into despair as RP got an early breakthrough and then proceeded to ramp up the pressure on the Dragons goal. Although the tie got away from the Dragons, the first half showed just how special this team is and the experience of reaching the final will do immeasurable amounts of good in future seasons as they search for future silverware. The U12 Boys lost 0-3 to SYS in the Middlesex Cup Final. The game was evenly matched for much of the first half until SYS took their chance and went into the break leading1-0. In the second half, the Dragons regrouped and came out with great energy and determination. They continued to press forward and created opportunities, but the SYS defence remained solid throughout. Every player worked hard and battled right until the final whistle. Despite the loss, the Dragons should be extremely proud of reaching a Cup Final in their first official season together and look forward to another chance for silverware this coming weekend. All other Youth Boys and Youth Girls teams had no scheduled games |
