The Firsts lost 2-4 away to Chipperfield Corinthians in the Third Round of the Anagram Records Trophy. It was a long way to travel to a match where the Dragons failings sadly cost them: CC only managed to score because the Dragons made mistakes! There is much of the season to go and the Dragons had the chance to put it right on Tuesday at the Den in the League – all will be revealed next week.
The Blues beat CB Hounslow & Abbots 10-2 at home. A dominant win from the Blues who, after a disappointing game last week, showed their true colours. The Dragons were 6-0 up at half time and pressed on in the second at a slightly lower goal scoring rate. All footballing eyes are now on their Cup Final on Saturday 21st March If you would like a ticket please reply to this email and we will put you in touch with the correct person to secure tickets at £3 rather than the £5 on the day.
The Old Dragonians drew 2-2 to Jugg Boyz away. The Old Ds were left wondering, ‘What if?’ as they secured a point away on the road but really wanted all three to lay better claim to the League’s top spot. Having resoundingly beat Jugg earlier this season, four points from six is still not a bad result.
The U16 Girls lost 1-3 away at Ruislip Rangers in the Semi Final of the MCFA Cup. This was a stellar performance from the Dragons against the unbeaten Hertfordshire side. Despite not having a keeper, the Dragons matched Ruislip from start to finish. Although they went in at half time 0-2 down they showed character and resilience to cut the deficit in half. The game ebbed and flowed but Ruislip scored a break away goal to eventually put the game out of reach.
The U15 Girls beat Alexandra Park 5-1 at home. A solid performance from the Dragons with another huge goal haul. This is the fourth time the Dragons have faced AP this season – once in the Cup – and they have won each time bagging an incredible 19 goals in total.
The U13 Girls lost to Gunnersbury Eagles 3-5 away. The Dragons started slowly but then got into their groove to put the Eagles on their back foot. It was a fantastic performance after going 0-2 down to then draw level before half time. The final score does not reflect how well the Dragons played with great saves, passing and driving with the ball. Seeing the Dragons hunger and drive worried the Eagles staff enough to affect their tactics.
The new U10 Boys had no game.
The U11 Boys lost 2-3 to The Eight away. The young Dragons suffered a rare loss in the late kick-off with no Sky Sports crews present. After going into the break 0-1 down, they clawed themselves back into the lead with a quick-fire double, only for the opposition to draw level again almost immediately and then win.
The U12 Boys beat FC Starz 3-1 away. With two games left this season, everything was still to play for. The Dragons looked half asleep early on and were stunned by an unfortunate own goal which woke them up. They fought back to draw level before half-time. The break gave them a chance to reset and change momentum. In the second half the goals began to flow despite a few questionable refereeing decisions. The Dragons stayed composed, dominated their end to take control of the match.
The U13 Boys drew 2-2 to Northfields United away. A tricky game for the Dragons on the road and the good news is that they didn’t lose and came away with a point that keeps them at the top of the League on GD, crucially with a game in hand. It’s now a big push towards the end of the season.
The U14 Boys Red beat Bessingby Park Rangers 12-1 away. What to say when the Dragons were clearly the dominant side to get their goal tally into double figures? To be hyper critical they will wonder why they conceded at all.
The U14 Boys White beat London Athletic 9-0 away. The Dragons dominated, scoring three times in the first half and six in the second. The ball flowed well from defence through to the midfield and into the final third, with stand out performances from everyone. The Dragons are playing mature and exciting football.
The U15 Boys lost 2-4 to Ealing United away. The Dragons started well but the referee unfortunately played a deciding role. It was a tight and even contest that the Dragons were winning until, in the second half, the ref lost control and awarded Ealing a penalty which was clearly not a foul. The setback affected the game as Ealing took advantage to score two more goals.
The U16 Boys lost 0-1 to Princess Park away. It is true that the pitch was hopeless – grass not cut; wrongly marked out; not flat and a muddy quagmire. It is also true that the referee lost control and made silly decisions. Having said all that, the Dragons were attacking most of the time and should have scored – a simple square pass now and then would have led to goals. This was a match that, despite everything, the Dragons could, and should, have won.
The U17 Boys beat RC Lens 7-3 away in the League Trophy. It was back to winning ways for the Dragons who have had a few tough results in the Trophy group stage so far. This time they came up against familiar opponents in the same age category and showed the power and finesse they have displayed throughout much of their League campaign.
