The Blues won the Jeff Nardin & Combination Cup, beating Kodak 5-4 on penalties after the game tied at 2-2. What a game. What a night. The Blues were staring down the barrel at 1-2 down in normal time despite dominating for large periods. As the clock ticked at 92 minutes the Blues finally found their equaliser and even had a chance with the last kick to steal a win, except for an unfortunately timed slip. Onto penalties; Kodak missed their first but recovered mentally to score their remaining four. The Blues – calm under immense pressure – scored all their five to win the Cup to the delight of the Club and vociferous travelling fans.
The Firsts lost 0-4 away at Hayes & Hillingdon. The Firsts, perhaps tired from their midweek fixture and less rest, were outplayed on this occasion by a strong Hayes and Hillingdon side who are battling at the very top of the League for first place. The Dragons know this result is not one to dwell on as they move onto the next fixtures – two again this week – with a fresh mind and hopefully rested legs.
The Old Dragonians beat Kodak Harrow 2-1 away. The Old Ds are still staking their claim to the League Championship as they managed to create a one-point advantage over their closest rivals Dar United. Dar have a handful of games in hand so the Dragons can only focus on their own fixtures and keep on winning – Dragons worldwide hope that Dar drop a few more points along the way.
The new U10 Boys beat Gunnersbury Eagles 2-1 away. An amazing match. The Dragons showed great passing and real trust in one another. It’s wonderful to see their hard work and dedication paying off. One game to go.
The U11 Boys beat Pitshanger 3-2 away. The Dragons started well and were 3-0 up as the whistle blew to draw the first half to a close. A slower second half unfolded with Pitshanger in the ascendency to win the second half 2-0. Thankfully the Dragons first half advantage enough as they held their nerve to keep the win.
The U12 Boys beat Football Samurai 3-0 at home in the League Trophy Knockout stageAlthough theSamurais are currently in a lower division they made the Dragons work very hard for their 3 goals.
The U13 Boys had no game.
The U14 Boys Red and White both had no games.
The U15 Boys beat Southall Athletic 5-2 at home. A great performance from the Dragons who started well to score in the first six minutes of the first half. The whole squad continued to put in a great performance, playing with and for each other.
The U16 Boys lost 1-4 at home to Hanwell Town. This was a closer match than the score-line suggests. Hanwell scored first before the Dragons equalized. Hanwell then pulled ahead again and from there it was anybody’s match with the game equally poised. The deciding factors were a questionable Hanwell linesman combined with their superb goalie and clinical strikers which led to two Hanwell goals right at the end of the match.
The U17 Boys were awarded an automatic away win in the League Trophy to Ruislip Town.
The U16 Girls lost 3-5 to Broomwood away. The Dragons snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Against the League’s leaders, the Dragons went into the break 2-0 up playing their best football as they dominated Broomwood in every facet of the game. The second half left everyone in shock: the Dragons lost their concentration, went full throttle on the offensive, left gaps in defence and were punished. Football is a game of two halves and when this team plays both at their optimum they are the best team in the League.
The U15 Girls and the U13 Girls had no games.
