Update and Results W/E 26 September 2021

The season has started for the Senior sides with the Junior sides wheeling into action this coming and next weekends:

Afghani Refugee Soccer School

The Dragons were asked to run a Soccer School last Sunday for Afghani refugees. A group of rather nervous looking youths duly turned up to play cricket only to told the good news that football was first on their agenda.  With their elders looking on,  they were soon rushing from cone to cone in a complicated drill that your correspondent felt tired looking at. The session finished with a spirited match showing that, whilst the average Afghani youth might well be a tremendous cricketer, they are also no slouches at football. The Afghanis eventually went on their way to cricket looking relaxed and happy. Sport is fun.

The Firsts drew 0-0 with Brentham away in the Premiership. Playing away is always a trial, especially early in the season, so coming away with a draw is a good result.

The Blues match against Hillingdon was postponed as Hillingdon did not have enough players registered.

The new Old Dragonians beat  Hanworth 2-1 in the fiercest of exchanges at the Linford Christie Stadium. The OD’s are made up of former youth Dragons and players in the community who wanted to get back into playing 11 aside league football. They have got off to a magnificent start – drawing  their first ever match 4-4 away last Sunday and winning this, their first home game, despite two players getting injured, possibly exacerbated by the uneven surface.
